MAT Tourniquet: Mechanical Application Tourniquet Overview

Introduction

The MAT Tourniquet, short for Mechanical Application Tourniquet, is a unique device distinct from traditional options like the CAT and Soft T tourniquets. It operates on a pulley system, offering efficient application and pressure adjustment.

Features

  • Pulley System: Utilizes a pulley mechanism for tension application, providing precise control over pressure.
  • C-Shaped Design: Features a C-shaped structure designed to fit securely around the limb, ensuring stability during application.
  • Adjustable Tension: Equipped with a winder for adjusting tension levels, allowing for customized pressure application.
  • Easy Application: Simple to apply with a straightforward process, making it suitable for emergency situations.
  • Compact Design: Compact and portable, suitable for use on both arms and legs with ample material for secure wrapping.

Usage Instructions

To apply the MAT Tourniquet:

  1. Slide the device over the limb, ensuring proper positioning.
  2. Use the tail to tighten the tourniquet securely around the limb.
  3. Engage the release winch and wind it up until significant pressure is applied.
  4. Bend the tab over and record the time of application on the designated section.

Advantages and Considerations

  • Effective: Provides efficient pressure control and is suitable for use in emergency situations.
  • Narrow Width: The tourniquet may be narrower than preferred, but it remains effective in controlling bleeding.
  • Metal Buckle: The metal buckle may cause discomfort due to direct skin contact.

Removal and Reset

When removing and resetting the tourniquet:

  1. Press the release button to release tension and carefully remove the device from the limb.
  2. To reset, push the release button again and pull the strings to prepare for future use.
